Abakus Remixes

Abakus just released some remixes of his favorite tunes from his youth. My two favorites are Billy Idol’s ‘White Wedding’ and Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Game.’

If you’re not familiar Abakus is an artist project of music producer Russ Davies, who also releases nudisco-electro under the Cinnamon Chasers alias, and progressive rock/ambient with his father Dave Davies (founder of 60s cult act The Kinks) as The Aschere Project. Abakus explores the deeper and more emotionally complex side to electronic music. He also helps us travel intergalacticly via his cosmic productions.

Here’s a nice recap video of the Scandanavian Boat Party at Dimensions with a superb track from Compuphonic. The track in the video is actually the Disjokke remix.

Both the original and remix are great. diskJokke’s version kinda blows out the ending which I love. Check em both out.

Madeon, the young phenom, keeps releasing top not notch tracks. He is on the quick climb to the top and it’d be nice to see this guy go far instead of someone like Avicci. I’m not hating on him because I don’t like his music, but nothing about his music strikes me as unique. It’s mass produced EDM made for the radio.

Madeon has that kind of big room sound that attracts everyone, but he manages to at least have some originality. He’s also clearly has that french touch which is great. He’s also 17 or 18 and seems modest a la his facebook page: “Madeon is a french electronic musician who talks about himself in the third person – what a snob”

Madeon – Finale

Here’s another track off Disclosure’s album, The Face. It has a catchy vibe to it with elements of a SBTRKT sound. A little of the click clack of Mount Kimbie and some added UK bass for good measure. Dig it.

Disclosure – Control Ft. Ria Ritchie

Abakus, one of my favorites, is releasing his new LP, Futurism, on May 7th. This is part 1 of a two part preview mix. I’m really looking forward to this after hearing some quick snap shots. Come to the fucking West Coast!

M83 and Mylo

M83 – Reunion (Mylo Remix)

“Across the time and space
A never-ending dance
A blooming and a trance
You make me feel my soul
There’s no more loneliness
Only sparkles and sweat
There’s no more single fate
You make me feel myself”

So while you were busy gettin plastered off Guinness and Jamison, Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show premiered Scottish producer, Mylo’s brand new remix of M83. It is amazing. It has easily jumped into my top ten tracks of the year so far. As an added bonus, since Mylo has been relatively quiet the past few years, here is my all time favorite track of his.
