Maetrik aka Maceo Plex’s new EP is some serious shit. ‘A subtle shift in style for Ellum Audio, the undisputed modern master of seductive, brooding basslines and compulsive killer tunes imparts his tougher credentials without forgoing the sensual touch.
Over a decade after the first Maetrik release on Immigrant Records back in 2000, its safe to say that Eric Estornel aka Maceo Plex has the industry at his feet. A powerful force in electronic music with a deeply distinctive sound, Erics mega following is in the grip of his devastatingly addictive and beautifully engineered dancefloor assaults. A first for Ellum Audio, Maetriks ‘Unleash The Beast EP’ may well take this remarkable artist to even headier heights.’
“Damian Lazarus, has plucked the duo from South American obscurity to give them a platform on his much-lauded Crosstown Rebels label. It was the duo’s blending of live vocals, serious grooves and a heavily funk indebted sound which had Lazarus snap them up, first to remix Russ Yallop, then for a full release entitled “Space Ballad” which shot to prominence thanks to a killer Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs remix. Reactions to its swirling future funk were crazy…
“Our music is mostly for the dancefloor” say the pair of their output so far. “We consider ourselves to be making some sort of Space Funk. Our main influences are house and techno, but we add our own twist so though stuff works on the dancefloor, it’s also deep, funky, trippy and hopefully delivers some sort of story to the listener.”
Adeline – Love Handle You (Fur Coat Remix)
What a weekend. Coachella was a blast as usual. I ended up seeing way less electronic music than I’m normally accustomed to, but loved opening up my musical mind to some of the indie avenues. With that said and with my brain slowing coming back, I’m already ready to jump back into it so check out today’s space funk.
